What are the differences between Fixed, Flexible and All Broadcast check-ins?

Each check-in type has a different check-in schedule expectation, each type has its own pros and cons.

There are three types of Check-ins:

  • Fixed Check-ins
    Regulated, mandatory check-ins suited when control is more important than flexibility.
  • Flexible Check-ins
    User controlled check-ins which provide flexibility and reduces management dependency.
  • All Broadcast Check-ins
    Activity based check-ins which provide flexibility and early warning alarms of potential issue.

The following check-in timelines reflect how each check-in method would look for an extended work day.


Fixed Check-in: 1 hour check-in windows at 8am, 12pm and 5pm with 30min reminders.

  • Person starts work at 7:19am.  First check-in window is at 8am to 9am.
  • Person checks-in at 8:22am.  Next check-in window is at 12pm to 1pm.
  • Check-in reminder at 12:30pm, 30min prior to check-in due.
  • Person starts lunch at 12:40pm.
  • Person checks-in at 12:44pm.  Next check-in is at 5pm to 6pm.
  • Person checks-in at 5:27pm.
  • Person ends work at 7:45pm.

Flexible Check-in: 3 hour check-in intervals with 30min reminders

  • Person starts work at 7:19am and sends an OK message to start Flexible Check-in monitor.
  • Flexible check-in monitor started at 7:20am.  Check-in due within 3 hours.
  • Check-in reminder on device at 9:50am, 30min prior to check-in due.
  • Person checks-in at 10:05am, 2 hours and 45 minutes after monitoring started.
  • Check-in timer reset.  Check-in due within 3 hours.
  • Check-in reminder on device at 12:35pm, 30min prior to check-in due.
  • Person starts lunch at 12:40pm.
  • Person checks-in at 12:44pm, 2hours and 39minutes after last check-in.
  • Check-in timer reset.  Check-in due within 3 hours.
  • Person checks-in at 3:05pm, 2hours and 21minutes after last check-in.
  • Check-in timer reset.  Check-in due within 3 hours.
  • Person checks-in at 5:15pm, 2hours and 10minutes after last check-in.
  • Check-in timer reset.  Check-in due within 3 hours.
  • Person finishes work at 7:45pm and ends the flexible check-in monitor by sending a CUSTOM message.
  • Flexible check-in monitor ended at 7:46pm. 

All-Broadcast Check-in:  25 minute check-in intervals no reminders

  • Person starts work at 7:19am and sends an OK message to start All Broadcast Check-in monitor.
  • Flexible check-in monitor started at 7:20am.  Check-in due within 25 minutes.
  • Track points received and check-in registered every 10minutes until 12:40pm. 
  • Check-in timer reset to 25minutes with each track point received.
  • Person starts lunch at 12:40pm.
  • Track points stop because person is no longer in motion.
  • Person ends the flexible check-in monitor by sending a CUSTOM message at 12:44pm.  (This avoids the missed check-in alarm triggering due to a lack of track points)
  • Person finished lunch at 12:40pm and sends an OK message to re-start All Broadcast Check-in monitor.
  • Track points received and check-in registered every 10minutes until 7:40pm. 
  • Check-in timer reset to 25minutes with each track point received.
  • Person finishes work at 7:45pm and ends the flexible check-in monitor by sending a CUSTOM message.
  • Flexible check-in monitor ended at 7:46pm.
