XGate First-Time Set Up (Mac & Windows Users)

New to XGate? Stay connected by learning the basics of sending and receiving satellite email.

Once you have registered for a new XGate account, you can start sending and receiving emails over a satellite connection using the desktop software, Android mobile app, or Apple mobile app. This guide will walk you through the following procedures on the desktop software for Mac or PC:

  1. Configuring First-Time Settings

  2. Composing a New Email

  3. Completing an Email Transfer Session

Configuring First-Time Settings:

  1. Open the Settings Window

  2. Navigate to the Gateway section.

    1. Under Account Information, enter your account credentials in the "Real Full", "Assigned User", and "Password" fields. Your credentials would have been given to you at the time of your account creation.

  3. Navigate to the Connection section

    1. Under Connection Information select your connection type from the "Type" dropdown. This depends on the type of internet connection and device you are using. 

      1. Network Connection is the most common choice here. It is used when connected to a home internet network or a satellite network where a manual data session is used.

  4. Click the "OK" button to save your settings.


 

Composing a New Email (using iScribe)

  1. Click the "Email" button at the top of the XGate client page. This will launch iScribe, XGate's default email client.

  2. Click the "New Email" button in the top left corner of the iScribe scree. This will launch the Mail Message screen.

  3. In the Mail Message screen, you will enter all details required for the new email message
    1. In the "To" field, enter the recipient's email address. You will need to hit the enter key on your keyboard for the address to be moved to the "Recipients" box.

      1. You can enter as many email addresses here as needed.
      2. You can also click on the dropdown in the "To" field, and change it to "Cc" or Bcc" as needed. 
    2. In the "Subject" field,  enter the subject of your email message

    3. Under the "Text" field, write the body of the email.

  4. When you are satisfied with the Recipients, Subject, and Body of your email, click the "Save" button in the top of the Mail Message screen. This will move your email to the Outbox of iScribe, where it will stay until you start a data session and send it.

Completing an Email Transfer Session 

To send and receive emails with XGate, you must complete a manual email transfer session. This allows you choose when you want XGate to connect to the internet, allowing you to better control your satellite airtime usage. 

  1. To start a manual email transfer session, click the green "Start" button in the top left corner of the XGate client screen.

  2. As the data session progresses, logs will generate in the Mail Transfer Window. These logs provide information on the status of the current email transfer session such as the number of emails, the size of the messages, and when the session is complete. 
    1. If there is an error in the transfer, an error message will appear here.
    2. Logs for the completion of sending emails and receiving emails will be shown: "Done Sending Mail" and "Done Receiving Mail"

  3. Once the session is complete, "Mail Transaction Complete" and "Done" will be generated at the bottom. At this point any pending emails from the Outbox in iScribe will be moved to the Sent folder, and newly downloaded emails be available to view in the Inbox in iScribe.
